Photographic layout services will help you format your internal photos correctly, whether you have these in black and white or colour, on dedicated photo pages, at the start of a chapter or throughout the text.

While the exact requirements will vary by book type and your own interests and ideas, there are a few key features that our photographic layout services can help with:

Colour Photos on Dedicated Pages

• Colour photos need to be 300 DPI resolution and CMYK colour scheme
• Having dedicated photo pages, usually in the centre of your book, means you can use high-quality photo paper
• If you have black and white photos, they can also be printed on dedicated photo paper, either alongside colour photos, or as all black and white

Colour Photos Throughout Book

• Colour photos need to be 300 DPI resolution and CMYK colour scheme
• Having colour pages throughout your book means your whole book needs to be printed in colour which adds considerably to your printing costs

Black and White Photos Throughout Book

• Black and white photos need to be 300 DPI resolution
• Having black and white photos throughout your book is a great way to add visuals to your book without increasing the print cost as the book won’t have to be printed in colour

At Fortress Books and Web, we recommend using Adobe Photoshop to recolour and resize your photos for the best quality, however free services such as online converters are available. Microsoft Word and similar products don’t support CMYK format, so any pages with colour photos will need to be formatted in a different program. We recommend Adobe InDesign for best quality, but free services such as online converters are available.
